Michael H. Foster is Principal Consultant and CEO for Environmental Business Specialists, LLC (EBS) in Mandeville, LA. EBS provides wastewater-related products and services to industrial wastewater treatment systems, including petroleum refineries, petrochemical facilities, meat & poultry processing plants, and pulp & paper mills. Areas of specialization include wastewater training, on-site troubleshooting and system optimization. EBS also provides laboratory support in the form treatability studies and in-depth microbiological assessments of wastewater systems, including activated sludge plants, aerated stabilization basins, and sequencing batch reactors. EBS is the consultant of first resort for many major clients when wastewater permit compliance is threatened. EBS has extensive experience in assisting clients in addressing all types of system deficiencies that lead to high effluent BOD or TSS, odor complaints, or excessive solids accumulation.

Mike has worked with more than 200 industrial wastewater systems over the past twenty-five years in such diverse areas as activated sludge troubleshooting, nutrient optimization, clarification, sludge dewatering, bioaugmentation, and operator training. He has presented wastewater training and technical material to over two thousand wastewater professionals at technical conferences, workshops, and on-site courses. Mike has extensive experience with system startup of both new installations and restarts of systems that have been out of service for various reasons. Mike is frequently called upon to serve as key consultant for plants facing production curtailment or other steps due to wastewater system performance deficiencies and/or process upsets.

Mr. Foster is widely recognized as an industry expert to North American companies in the areas of wastewater system assessment, upset remediation, and activated sludge process control. He is frequently invited to speak at environmental and wastewater conferences on a variety of topics including wastewater microbiology, nutrient control, advanced analytical techniques, and wastewater.

Mike graduated in 1980 from the University of Southern Mississippi (USM) with a BS BS in Chemistry and Political Science. In 2004, he received his Masters Degree from USM in Instructional Technology. He holds the Certified Environmental Trainer (CET) designation in Wastewater from the National Environmental Trainers Association. He also holds Class IV Wastewater Operator Licenses in Mississippi, Louisiana, and Arkansas.
